A.BCH: full disclosure from fibre to finish

Concerned with the state of the industry, designer Courtney Holm put years of development on hold.

Working on her then fashion venture, Article, a men’s made-to-order street-luxe brand, Courtney began to question the supply chain and reassessed options.

“Suppliers don’t always understand the need to know the full supply chain. If we’re serious about transparency, a lot of time and effort needs to go into getting it right,” said Courtney.

Enter A.BCH; Article By Courtney Holm. A fusion of basic, genderless style, quality finishes and organic fibres, full disclosure is at the forefront of every garment.

The level of detail is incredible; every fibre, button, thread, make, and even packaging has been detailed and shared, in an effort for full disclosure.

A move away from wholesale, A.BCH sells direct to the public, with a focus on building quality relationships with users.

“It allow us to keep our prices accessible, and support the wearer throughout the garment’s lifespan. When a garment needs repairing due to normal wear and tear, we’re there to support them with better choices to extend its life.  Whether that be support with sewing, buttons or other”.

Courtney’s dedication to sustainable practices goes beyond production, announcing A.BCH Open Studio.

An opportunity to visit the site where production takes place, and get to know the people behind the garments, we took A.BCH up on their offer and attended CUTPIECE, one of the few workshops hosted onsite. Guided by Courtney, attendees converted leftover fabric into bags, and learnt the technique behind monogramming.

Among the needles, fabrics, machines and buzz of day, our key takeaway became clear. An insight into the making of simple items made us further appreciate the work and effort that goes into garment production; something that we forgo in the current state of fast fashion.
